Square vs. Rectangular

Square formats create a sense of calm and balance. They work perfectly above sofas, beds, or as part of a gallery wall. The symmetrical shape has a calming and timeless effect.

Rectangular formats are more versatile and fit most wall surfaces. Portrait format is ideal for narrow walls, while landscape format emphasizes horizontally oriented rooms.

My tip

Measure your wall before deciding. As a rule of thumb, the poster should be about two-thirds the width of the furniture underneath. For a 180cm wide couch, a 50x70cm or 70x100cm poster would be ideal.

The effect of size

Small formats like 30x30 cm or 30x40 cm invite closer inspection. They create intimate moments and are perfect for personal spaces like the bedroom or home office.

Medium formats like 50x50 cm or A2 are the all-rounders. They have presence without dominating—perfect for living rooms or dining areas.

Large formats starting at 70x70 cm are real eye-catchers. They transform empty walls into art galleries and create powerful accents. These sizes require space to function.

Tips for hanging

The center of your poster should hang at eye level—approximately 145-150 cm from the floor. If there's furniture underneath, leave a gap of 15-20 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the poster.

For gallery walls, combine different sizes. Start with the largest piece as an anchor point and arrange smaller pieces around it.
